Within the confines of the Sint-Joriskerk on Mechelsplein (Church of St George), an enclosed city gem is hidden. A garden of 5,000 tulips, rebuilt by Ronald based on the conventions of the traditional hortus concluses Judeo-Christian scripture. An oasis of calm and green surrounded by the brick walls of the church complex.

Laura De Coninck is an Antwerp-based olfactory artist, trained by Givaudan under the mentorship of master perfumer Sonia Constant. Her artistic interpretation of the garden has resulted in a daring and rich blend that goes far beyond the gentle tulip.

At its core Hortus Conclusus Tulipa is a green floral, where the green, aquatic and herbal scent of the tulip is at the center of the fragrance. The innocence of the flower is quickly distorted by a multitude of extra layers, between the medicinal and leathery aspects of saffron, the mild juiciness of fig leaf, and an earthy soil-like undertone, the fragrance is transformed into something else. Finally, a heavy dosage of sandalwood and ambroxan wraps the fragrance in a creamy and transparant warmth. Abstract and layered, Hortus Concluses Tulipa is a unique eau de parfum.

The fragrance is not fixated, meaning it will keep macerating and evolving in the bottle. As it matures further, the fragrance becomes deeper and more harmonious. The color will change from green to smoky blue and there may even be some sediment due to the orange blossom extract that has been added.

Hortus Conclusus Tulipa is the first and only Belgian perfume at Necessities with a limited 500 bottle production.
